Frequently Asked Questions
At Mountains of Care, we understand that navigating mental health services can be complex. Our FAQ section aims to provide clear and concise information. If your question isn’t answered here, please contact us directly.
- How do I know which assessment my child or I need?
If you’re unsure about the type of assessment required, please call us to discuss your concerns. Mariette, our practice manager, will connect you with one of our clinicians who can guide you through your options. There’s no obligation to proceed after this conversation—our priority is to help you make informed decisions.
- What if my assessment requires additional services?
Our clinicians will inform you if they believe additional assessments are necessary. We will discuss the options with you to ensure you make an informed decision. Any work already completed can often be integrated into the new assessment. We value professionalism and transparency and will only recommend clinically appropriate assessments.
- How long does it take to receive my report, and who receives a copy?
Reports are generally available a few weeks post-assessment. We offer feedback sessions in person or via video call to discuss results. To protect privacy, we recommend that parents/guardians distribute the report to relevant parties. With your consent, we can share the report with your designated healthcare providers.
- Can I use the reports for NDIS funding applications?
Yes, our reports can be used for NDIS funding applications. However, approval depends on the NDIS criteria at the time of application. We ensure our reports meet professional standards.
- Can your psychologists diagnose Autism and ADHD?
Yes, we have team members who are qualified to diagnose Autism and ADHD. We adhere to high standards and best practice guidelines, which you can review at the following links:
- What are my payment options?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Debit Card, direct deposit, and cash (exact amount only). Payments can be made online, over the phone, or in person. Please note that we do not keep cash on the premises. For larger assessments, we do assist with payment plans, contact us to discuss if you consider this to be helpful.
- Can I use private health insurance for assessments?
Many private health insurers offer rebates for psychological services. Coverage varies, so please check with your provider before booking. We will provide an invoice for you to claim your rebate.
- What funding options are available for seeing a psychologist at Mountains of Care?
- Medicare: With a GP referral (Mental Healthcare Plan), you may receive rebates:
- Clinical Psychologist: $145.25 per session
- Registered Psychologist: $98.95 per session
- Provisional Psychologist: No Medicare rebate (our provisional psychologist’s fees are reduced to reflect this, so you will be no more out of pocket)
- NDIS Funding: Available for self or plan-managed participants. We currently charge the NDIS scheduled fees (subject to change)
- What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments must be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance. Late cancellations or no-shows incur the full session fee. This policy applies to all clients, including those funded by third parties like NDIS. We appreciate your cooperation in attending scheduled appointments. We are a small practice focussed on personalised service. We don’t have multiple clients on call to fill a gap from a late cancellation, so please be cognisant of this when you book and cancel.
- Do you offer bulk billing?
Our practice does not offer bulk billing services. Contact us to discuss your needs if you want to explore service options.
- What should I expect during my first session?
During your initial session, your psychologist will conduct an intake assessment to understand your needs and goals. This session sets the foundation for your treatment plan. You can use this time to explore your options and work with you clinician to establish a helping relationship. During the first sessions, your psychologist may ask you to complete screening questionnaires and discuss some other tools we use in the consulting rooms that may be of benefit.
- How do you ensure the confidentiality of my information?
We adhere strictly to AHPRA’s code of ethics and all relevant laws to protect your privacy and confidentiality. Your information is securely stored and only shared with your consent.
- Are You Feeling Overwhelmed About Making an Appointment?
We understand that reaching out for psychological services can be daunting. We encourage you to speak with Mariette, who is here to help you make an informed choice about which clinician to see or what assessments may be beneficial. We believe in taking the time upfront to recommend the right service, ensuring you have a positive and supportive experience with us.
